996145M41: The dust is swirling heavily as the last survivors of the 181st Elysian Drop Troop Regiment board their remaining Valkyries and fly to isolated airbases on the desolate planet. Vox casters blasting endless chatter as they arrive with fuel stricken aircraft to transfer to larger landing vessels that will take the battered troops into orbit. Twenty four hundred Elysians arrived in support of the Raven Guard on Kastorel-Novem and less than four hundred were leaving. Forced to abandon their aircraft in such a hasty retreat was regrettable to all commanders involved, but to save face from losing the entire regiment was a calculated risk they were willing to make.
996158M41: Shadow Captain Korvydae arrives back on his homeworld of Deliverance with the fresh taste of defeat still lingering on his tongue. The loss of seventy battle brothers was something no space marine wanted to have happen under their command, but to lose so many and be unsuccessful was unbecoming. Korvydae faced his tribunal without remorse for his actions, but regret for his losses knowing it would only weaken an already under manpowered chapter. For his bravery he was commended, but for failure he was sent to the Deathwatch for two years as penance.
996160M41: Veteran Sergeant Clavian of 1st company was selected to take over as Master of the Recruits. Accepting the promotion Clavian swore upon the Raven’s Hammer, the holy relic of the 10th Company. The master of the shadows had called all companies back to the Ravenspire to defend it from the impending Ork Waagh; though this was not to be Clavian’s fate. The Master of the Shadows was sent transmissions through the warp from the Lords of Terra that the Collatus Sector was questionable and that the loss of this sector was not allowed to happen. Shadow Captain Clavian would leave at once with elements from 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 10th companies to the Didymus System. From there he was supposed to link up with the recovering 181st Elysian Drop Troop Regiment. His assignment was clear, do not let this sector fall and the threats were many.
Clavian’s report showed three major threats in the sector. The Orks had finally recovered from their defeat after the fall of Picklegrah in 798M41. The Tau had reestablished colonies in the Damocles Gulf and the threat of the 13th Crusade was forever on the minds of the Imperium. Clavian accepted his orders and set out for the shadow planet in the Didymus System. It was only fitting that the operations of the Raven Guard be performed from a planet that was forever in night. Clavian and his forces arrived on the planet and established a base deep in the Nillus Gully at the base of the Taxtum Mountain range. In 996870M41 they started sending transmissions out to the 181st Elysian Regiment. 996999M41 the Elysians have failed to respond, status unknown reported to the Astro Militarum. Clavian now fully aware of his surrounding systems has begun to make strategic attacks to hinder the expansion of the Tau and Ork empires. Chaos is looming, brother librarian Nabion can sense it and has been warning Clavian of its impending arrival into the sector.
Didymus System: The system was named for having twin asteroid belts. The system lies on the edge of the Damocles Gulf separating the Collatus Sector and the Lithesh Sector. The sun is a red giant and the affects of the expanding sun have had their effects on the system. The nearest planet is named Ferrel, a it is a medium sized planet. The atmosphere has thinned due to the loss of nearly all vegetation on the planet due to it’s now close proximity to the sun. The suns radiation over time has choked out all existing floral growth with the exception of small calcium based algae. The planet is as red in appearance as the sun in the system. The air is hot enough to boil most life forms, so no fauna exist on this planet. The planet is rich in magnesium and beryllium deposits, but the lengths that would have to be taken to extract it under such high radiation levels doesn’t make any mining expedition profit worthy.
Following Ferrel is the first asteroid ring called Zerah; which is closely followed by the second asteroid ring named Perez that rotates in a path roughly thirty degrees from plane to Zerah. The counter rotation of these two belts is unique to the Didymus System. No other system in the galaxy has this feature. The Perez asteroid belt is followed by two hospitable planets. The first of which is called Nox. The planet Nox is relatively small in size as planets go, more of the size of a large moon. The planet is forever in shadow from the sun due to its planer location to the twin asteroid belts. The planet has a nitrogen rich atmosphere that is on the edge of not being breathable by humans. The vegetation is pale in color; some of the flora has adapted to be luminescent making an eerie glow to the pocketed landscape. The second planet is Ipsum, a gas giant comprising mainly of argon and chlorine. The planet is more so named after its moons then the composition of the planets mass. Ipsum has three moons, all of which are hospitable. Two of which are lush with vegetation and abundant in faunal life forms. The third is the closest to the Ipsum and has an elliptical rotation around the planet. The close rotation has strong affects on the tidal pattern of the moon and thus the land mass is moist, spending major portions of each cycle submerged. When the land is exposed it is quickly covered over by simple algae growth.
